Tucked away behind a mossy wall overlooking a wooded valley in the heart of Dartmoor is a very special sanctuary.
Being Devon-based, Rupert really understood about how bad the weather can get, and his extensive knowledge of wood and sauna construction gave them confidence that the Falco would be able to withstand the worst that
Dartmoor could throw at it.
Owners Thomas, a financial consultant, and James, a concert pianist, moved from London to Devon two years ago and have been dreaming about having their own sauna since day one. Recently they turned to Out of the Valley to make it a reality.
“ I just love the ritual of it - making the fire, feeling the heat gradually build, the complete peace and quiet - the whole process slows you down and enables you to mentally switch off like nothing else ” — Thomas, Falco owner, Dartmoor
Owners Thomas, a financial consultant, and James, a concert pianist, moved from London to Devon two years ago and have been dreaming about having their own sauna since day one. Recently they turned to Out of the Valley to make it a reality.
Another benefit was that all Out of the Valley saunas are constructed at the workshop and are then transported ready for installation which made positioning the sauna really easy. Once the perfect spot was found, the Out of
the Valley team simply towed and lifted the sauna into position.
Their Devon home is set in 24 acres of stunning woods, fields and water meadows, that run down to the river Dart which meanders through their land. Thomas and James are committed wild swimmers, and they swim everyday
rain or shine.
“ It’s better than I could have imagined, it will enable us to enjoy swimming in the river and all the health benefits of contrast therapy all year round - it’s the final piece of the jigsaw. ” — Thomas, Falco owner, Dartmoor
In winter the water temperature can drop down to 2 degrees so the idea of having an outdoor sauna in which to warm up became more and more appealing.
Thomas traces an early connection to saunas in his childhood. Born in Switzerland his family would regularly sauna and, as he explains:
“ It’s just part of the culture in Europe, everyone does it. ” — Thomas
